Septic Tank Registration

I’ve heard about some people with a septic tank or sewage treatment plant who seem to think it doesn’t matter whether or not they’ve registered with the Environment Agency (EA) or the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA).

If you’re tempted to think along the same lines then my advice in a word is…don’t!

The simple truth is that you could be looking at a hefty fine or closure of your plant if your system is currently discharging effluent without being properly registered.

It’s absolutely critical that everyone without mains drainage and using either a septic tank or sewage treatment plant gets either exempted from needing a permit to discharge or failing this obtains a permit which will incur a fee from the EA/SEPA.

There’s a really good explanation on this website about how to get this exemption and UK Septic Tanks even offer a service where they will do the leg work for you – complete the documentation and submit your application to the relevant authority – all for just £59.99! It’s all covered on this site and I would recommend taking a look… sooner rather than later.

If you’d like some more advice or help with any registration issue please feel free to call us on 01304 620212.
